Associate Dean

Currently the College of Science already has four departments offering bachelor, master, and doctorate programs. The Institute of Biomedical Sciences offers master and doctorate programs. Each department and institute has integrated its faculty and facilities to provide students with a diversified and professional curriculum, and to prepare them for the rapidly changing technological environment. Each of the departments and institutes in the College of Science wishes to cultivate our students to take on critical roles and to possess internationally competitive edge.



1) Teaching

1. To promote interdisciplinary programs in Biotechnology, Mathematical Finance, Software Engineering, Semiconductor, and Nano Technology and Materials.

2. To establish interdisciplinary institutes such as “Institute of Protein Science,” “Institute of Congelative Science,” “Institute of Scientific Computation,” and “Institute of Nano Technology.”

3. In order to take on the service and responsibility that a major university has to its community and society, the College of Science will continue to promote curriculums and professional courses related to “Biological Gene Technology” so that working professionals in Kaohsiung city and in Southern Taiwan will have the opportunity to advance their knowledge in these new scientific disciplines.



2) Research

1. The College of Science will continue to encourage our faculty to apply for research projects from the National Science Council. In addition, we will also invite senior professors to conduct large integrated research projects in order to broaden and deepen the subject matters, and raise the overall research level.

2. The College of Science is committed to seek outside resources. We had established the Biotechnology Center in order to receive more research grants for the development of the Southern Taiwan Science Park. We have also tried to strengthen the relation with industry and other research institutions. We have signed a cooperation agreement with the Veterans General Hospital to combine academic research and clinical experiences. These efforts have made us an important research institution of fundamental medical science in Southern Taiwan.

3. To work with the Ministry of Education to establish inter-college/inter-departmental integrated projects. The College of Science has submitted the “Production, Appraisal, and Application of Nano Technology,” which has already been approved. Hopefully, through the execution of this project, we will be able to invite outstanding biotech and nano-tech scholars from Taiwan and abroad to come to campus and give lectures or conduct short-term research, in order to elevate the overall research standard of our college.

4. These days most of the pioneering or innovative research projects are being conducted jointly by scholars from interdisciplinary backgrounds as a team, rather than by an individual. In the future the College of Science will continue to promote projects in nano technology and synthetic medicine, as well as continue to promote interdisciplinary integrated projects in biochemistry, biomedicine, physics, and chemistry.

5. Through the already established “Nano Technology R&D Center,” the College of Science hopes to bid for large-scale research projects such as those sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and National Science Council.



3) Extension Services

1. The College of Science strongly emphasizes its extension education. We wish to continue the already successful “Guidance Program for Outstanding High School Students” in natural sciences (mathematics, physics and chemistry, biology). We also hope to bring science education to junior high and elementary schools students in the summer and winter breaks by holding science camps in chemistry, physics, math, and ecology. These campus have been very well-received by its participants, and we enjoy good feedback for its continuation.


In the future, we hope to offer graduate level courses to math and science teachers of elementary and junior high schools, in order to improve their professional knowledge. We hope to strengthen Taiwan’s fundamental science education, and to provide better education to the new generation.
